I heard @marismith talk today on “How to Develop a Raving Facebook Fan Base for Your Small Business” through the Small Biz Success Summit #SBSS12
I learned about several ways to build a fan base, including to make sure you add the subscribe button to your website and blog posts. You can embed the Subscribe button to make sure readers follow you. You can access this button here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins
She suggests mixing up your content that you place on your wall and keep it short and simple. Research shows that 80 characters or less get a 70% engagement rate. Ask “fill in the blank questions” or your thoughts on a certain topic.
If you have a retail store or a physical location, she suggests making sure your business is seen on as many places as possible. Such as: Placards, Signage, Menus, Walls, Windows, etc.
If you’re a retailer and sell, put a shop tab on your FB page. You can use the Big Commerce App: http://www.bigcommerce.com/
If you have a restaurant you can add the Menu Tab onto your business page by using an App like www.Makearestaurantmenu.com
She also suggests offering a “Check In Special!” So, if people check in on Facebook, Foursquare or Yelp, they get a free appetizer or drink for doing so.
There were so many things I learned today, I hope this helps you like it has for me. I highly recommend following Mari on Twitter @marismith and her Facebook page offers several tools on how to use Social Media and Facebook. Her page is facebook.com/marismith
